Give Back To Austin - Austin Duck Derby 2018

Give Back To Austin

KASE101, 98.1 KVET and Sonic are teaming up to help Give Back To Austin. Each month we will spotlight an Austin area non profit to shed  light on their organization and how you can help.

For June and July we will shine the spotlight bright on the 5th Annual Austin Duck Derby!

The 5th annual Austin Duck Derby presented by Austin Sonic Drive-Ins is a fundraising event hosted by the Austin Boys and Girls Club Foundation, which supports kids served by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area. On Saturday, August 4, 2018, 19,000 eco-friendly rubber ducks will be launched into Lady Bird Lake from the Ann Richards Bridge on Congress Avenue. Ducks will “race” to the finish line with a little help from water currents and sprays from the Austin Fire Department, and “Duck Adopters” will cheer from the bridge in support of their “adopted” duck – hoping for their duck to be the first across the finish line. Exciting prizes:

  • Grand Prize: 2018 Volkswagen Jetta S, sponsored by Onion Creek Volkswagen
  • Second Place: 1-week stay in Summer 2019 at Heritage Fairmont Place in Telluride, Colorado with Two Southwest Airlines tickets
  • Third Place: Two Season Tickets to The University of Texas at Austin Longhorn Football

WHEN:

Saturday, August 4, 2018 a family-friendly DuckFest will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon p.m. The race begins at 11:00 a.m. with more than 19,000 eco-friendly toy ducklings launching into the water from the Ann Richards Congress Bridge.

WHERE:

Ducks will be launched from the Ann Richards Bridge on Congress Avenue. Free, family-friendly festivities will be held below the bridge in the Austin American Statesman’s parking lot.

WHO:

The event is hosted by the Austin Boys and Girls Club Foundation, which provides long-term operating support and annual college scholarships for members of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area. All proceeds will go to the Austin Boys and Girls Club Foundation.

WHY:

To buy a $5 duck and collectively raise $100,000 to help kids in Austin who need it most. Plus, raise awareness for Austin’s leading youth development agency, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area, which currently has more than 7,500 registered Club youth in the Greater Austin area across 33 locations.

HOW:

Teams and individuals are encouraged to adopt ducks.  Ducks may be adopted online at www.austinduckderby.com through midnight on August 3 (or until sold out) or duck adoption papers may be picked up at participating Austin area businesses: Sonic, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area and more locations to be announced. Single ducks can be adopted for just $5, and Quack Packs, Flocks, and the Quacker’s Dozen are also available.
