There were many new laws that went into effect with the new year. Those laws are generally built on custom and and are enforced to ensure public safety. However, Texas has some totally strange laws that are still completely enforceable.

Here is a list of the weirdest Texas laws that are still on the books, according to WFAA and KHOU:

JUST SAY YOU'RE MARRIED

In Texas, if you want to be married then all you have to do is say so. For common law marriages, you just need to fill out a declaration form, which can be found online. The two people involved agree to be married, live together as a married couple, and tell people that they are married. It's as simple as that, as long as you're a legal adult.

NO WINDSHIELD NECESSARY

The state of Texas does not require drivers to have a windshield. They do, however, require that drivers have windshield wipers!

NO DUMPSTER DIVING

It's illegal to dig in your neighbor's trash and you can actually get charged with property theft.

HORSEBACK RIDING

In Texarkana, it is only legal to ride horses at night if the horse has tail lights.
