People shopped less on the final weekend before Christmas in spite of deep discounts... but they say they plan to do more shopping after the holidays than last year.

Market analysts say shopping in the next two weeks will pick up a lot of the slack from slower sales before Christmas.

Analytics firm RetailNext says retail sales fell by a mid-single-digit percentage at stores on Friday and Saturday, two of the four most important shopping days of the season, compared with the same days last year.

But, that doesn't include online sales, which have been strong. Stores had seven percent fewer visits than last year.
